Longevity

My favourite word of all time... LONGEVITY.  I love everything about this word. The positive frame it shapes around ageing, the possibilities, the cultural discoveries, the joy, the connection, the ease, the daily habits, the self awareness - it all lights me up. So let me shine some light on how you can enhance your longevity.

IMG_9813.jpg

Longevity simply means - a long duration of individual life.

I notice a lot of people have hang ups around the word ageing.  There is fear attached to another birthday, another year.  I don't feel the same way and I'm really proud of that.  Each year brings more lessons, more connection, more discoveries, more opportunities. There is so much to discover and learn on this planet.  Over the year I have become equipped with oodles of tools on how to support my body and mind, nourish my hormones and focus on the things that are important for healthy ageing.  If I need to shift gears because I'm noticing changes in my body - I can.  I want you to either develop or enhance your own personal awareness around longevity, leaning on me as a guide and support.

The above pic was taken recently on day 4 of the Seeds Of Health fasting retreat at Mossman Gorge. We had been fasting for 3 full days and I felt amazing.  My body always slips into a place of ease when fasting - less work to do and therefore more time for regeneration and repair (the next fasting retreat is September 12-16th, 2018 so keep your eyes peeled!)

Here are some hot tips to assist you with your LONGEVITY...

  • Fast!  If fasting for a day or more scares you then try intermittent fasting - Have an early dinner then hydrate and skip breakfast, being prepared to munch of something wholesome and packed with nutrition at brunch/lunch.  Fasting repairs your DNA - can you believe that?!  Longer fasts give you faster results - this September (12-16th) there is another fully supported fasting retreat coming up!  Or reach out for guidance prior to that, to fast at home.
  • Hydrate.  Good quality water is a must here.  If you are hydrating yet filling your system with chlorinated and fluoridated water then it's creating extra work for your body.  Find some spring water in your area or purchase a Zazen water filter - I personally love mine!  Have used it for 3.5 years now.
  • Support stress within your body. Exercise is a great way to counteract and release stress (move your body in a way you love...me personally - hiking, yoga & swimming).  Herbs are another great way to support your body through times of stress.  Superfeast herbs are something I use daily to tonify and support my system, in hot drinks or smoothies, however through a Naturopath consultation I can refine the exact ones that you need in a variety of forms.  An iridology assessment (picture of your iris) assists me with this understanding. A liver cleanse blend could be the place to start?!  Floating is another beautiful way to surrender & give back to yourself when feeling stressed.  If you are a first time user remember to make the most of my coupon code!  Or for your own at home remedy - meditate!  Stress ageing the body faster than anything else.  Meditation is a free, at-your-fingertips tool that can reverse this ageing and combat your stress.  Deepak is holding another FREE 21 day mediation challenge on March 19th, so make sure you sign up!
  • Eat plants!  Upping your plants - VEGETABLES AND FRUITS - definitely enhances longevity.  Adding enzymes, nutrition, vitamins, minerals, life force, hydration, trace minerals, antioxidants, etc to your system to repair your cells.  My social media channels hopefully provide inspiration for you here or my blog has recipes on it.  During a Naturopathic consultation the recipes, links & inspiration are more specific for you as an individual.
  • Tibetan Rites - these 5 exercises are known as the Fountain Of Youth.  I wrote a blog post about them a few years back.  The perfect tune up for your endocrine system each day.
  • Reducing and eliminating chemicals in your lifestyle. This is an enormous topic which I am super passionate about so perhaps another blog post needs to be created?  I have been chipping away at this in my own lifestyle for years.  Constantly upgrading my choices and switching to cleaner options for my body and the Earth.  For now I'll just list some of the alternatives I can support you with - chemical free menstrual cups and pads, chemical free beauty, perfume and cleaning products.  There is a whole chapter about Conscious Living (Chemical free living) in my Nurturing 9 ebook which you can download via my shop or on Amazon for your kindle.  Comment below or shoot me an email if you are wanting personalised support around this change to a chemical free lifestyle.  My Kitchen Detox packages are a great wholistic way to kick this change off!  Otherwise, a gathering with other women to discuss any of these topics is a beautiful way to spend the arvo - I love bringing people together to enhance their wellness.

Having others to share JOY with or lean on is ridiculously underestimated.  COMMUNITY is where it's at.  Coming together to share, laugh, cry, talk, inspire and be with is missing in our fast paced, online world.  Don't forget your neighbours.  The Blue Zones of the world - where the centenarians - thrive are fully aware of this concept.  I find the Blue Zones inspiring!  It's not all about how many carrots you eat, okay?!

How to prep your body for babies

Hi ladies,

The time prior to conception fascinates me!  It can be a challenging time.  A time of apprehension, particularly for those with a perfectionist streak!  (My hand is up!).  Am I doing everything I can?  Is this the right detox?  Should I be...A, B or C?!! Arghhh!

I want to take the pressure off and give you one easy thing you can start doing. One thing that will ADD nourishment to your body, tone your organs, nourish your stressed out nervous system, clear your skin up, support your liver and more. One thing I strongly believe in is ADDing goodness in, not taking away. By adding nutrition and nourishment we end up crowding out those things that don't serve our body.

Herbs are one way of adding nourishment to our bodies and by placing them in food (hot drinks, smoothies, dinner, sprinkled on breakfast), we are also adding nutrition at the same time. It is as easy way to tone, detox, cleanse and support out body. Powdered herbs are a great way of adding some supportive herbs in.  By keeping your body toned and your organs in tip top shape our body is easily able to stay on top of the day to day stressors, without getting too far behind, then feeling like "oh my gosh I think I need to go on a one week retreat in Thailand to give back to my body!".  Don't get me wrong, sometimes these tunes up are needed - but we can save those for another discussion.

I have found just the perfect herbal company to allow us both to do this! One that I wholly trust and love their range *Superfeast*. I have been testing these for you everyday for the last 6 months. I am loving them.

Some herbs that I use daily are: Reishi, He She Wu, Chaga, Beauty Blend, Mason's Mushrooms & I'm yet to crack open the Lion's Mane. I generally pick 2 from my selection. This morning I added Reishi & Mason's Mushrooms to my plunger coffee. Yesterday I added the same to my smoothie as that is what I'm loving at the moment! Here is a run down of what these beautiful herbs can do for your body:

Reishi: Such a beautiful herb. Reishi brings peace to the body, mind and spirit. It is known as the herb of immortality...perfect for longevity. It improves liver detox, better immune function and mental clarity. By adding it to your food you are allowing your body to receive more. It is an adaptogenic herb that allows your body to adapt to changes and support the side effects of stress (depressed immune system, fatigue, hormone imbalances, sleep issues and digestive issues to name a handful). Sleep quality is of high importance when preparing to create a baby - it is the time when our body regenerates and recalibrates. Hormonally, this amazing herb helps to convert excess testosterone (which is a problem in conditions like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).

He She Wu: This guy is perfect for supporting your adrenals. It is a tonic herb, meaning it tones organs in the body and therefore has life extending capacity. If you are a coffee drinker at the moment, consider adding a teaspoon to your coffee, so that you are not draining your adrenals while enjoying your coffee. By adding herbs your coffee becomes an elixir. Who wants to wake up and brew an elixir each morning?! ...ME! If you wake tired, you may also decide to better yet, ditch the coffee and brew a He She Wu cuppa with hot water and honey.

Chaga: Such a powerful antioxidant! Chaga is grown on Birch trees. It is also an adaptogenic herb and assists the body's natural capacity to resist stress. Wow! Who doesn't want that?! We've all got a lot or a little stress in our lives, right? It's damaging. So use this support tool! Chaga is also great for combating viruses and free radicals (damaging our cells and DNA). You may choose to simply add 1 tsp to water, steep for 5mins, then add some honey and enjoy. I love to add a dash of CocoQuench to mine :)

Beauty Blend: This baby is a detox blend. When we support our liver and detoxification organs we improve our skin. From the inside out. With a host of antioxidants, minerals and vitamin C this combination contains goji berry, longan berry, schizandra and micro-ground pearl powder. Wow! Beautiful alright. Your cells, organs, skin and liver will all be saying THANK YOU.

Mason's Mushrooms: This is a specialty blend of mushrooms made by the owner of Superfeast, Mason Taylor. These mushrooms boost your immune system, balance your hormone, strengthen your body to stress, while nourishing your nervous system. The blend contains: Chaga, Reishi, Maitake, Shiitake, Lion's Mane, Agaricus Blazei, Poria and Cordyceps. I have found this mix beautiful to add to my 100% banana ice cream with beetroot powder. What a pimped up powerhouse snack it is! Any herb that helps balance your hormones (generally through liver support) is wanted, as it makes it easier to track your cycle and know when you are ovulating for conception.

 Mason's Mushroom Ice cream... Mmmmm

Mason's Mushroom Ice cream... Mmmmm

Lion's Mane: This is our brain support herb!  It is also a tonic herb and nourishes your nervous system. Perfect if you are one of those anxious types. The effect on the brain from this herb, helps to repair and reverse any neurodegenerative disease.

HOW TO ENJOY THESE HERBS?

1. You can place 1 tsp in a mug with boiling water, let it steep for 5mins, then add a dash of dairy-free mylk and a bit of honey. You may choose to mix 2 herbs together?!  Another elixir you may choose to create is a delicious hot cacao drink/hot chocolate or adding them to your coffee. Sometimes I also just let my brew steep and cool - drinking it cold or even iced. I loved the bitterness.

2. You can add 1tsp to your smoothie or home made 100% blended banana/berry/mango ice cream?!

3. There is nothing stopping you from sprinkling these on your chia pudding or quinoa porridge for breakfast or over your dinner of a night.

One thing you can do to help me out is use this affiliate link when ordering your Superfeast herbs. In return I will continue to provide information about these herbs via my Facebook or Instagram pages with recipe ideas and creations.  I am also here to answer any of your questions regarding your health. Much gratitude. Happy herb shopping!  Let's get our bodies supported and in alignment for creating new life :)

In house Naturopath with Tyler Tolman

Happy Friday!

Just a quick note today to spread my good news that I will be spending a month in Bali in January working with Tyler Tolman at the Heal Thy Self retreat.  This retreat is a fabulous program designed to enable individuals with chronic illness to heal their bodies using fasting, colonics, massage and self care principles to achieve vitality and heal themselves.

I will be working as the in-house Naturopath while in Bali allowing individuals to safely progress through their 30 day fasting and cleansing program.  The support and the program are amazing and I am so proud to be apart of it.  Check it out here…  I feel really honoured to be able to be there for each individual and watch there lives transform!  I know I will equally learn a lot from being apart of the team.

It is around 3 and a half weeks until I leave for Christmas with my family in Perth.  I will be spending some delicious time with my gorgeous niece Willow while there and soaking up the Perth summer – which I love!  From Perth I will be flying straight to Bali to begin preparing for the intense and fulfilling month ahead.

Please make the most of these next 3 weeks and come and see me for a consultation, food plan or simply to top up on a sleep herbal or digestive support or perhaps some barley grass as an easy way to add greens to your routine during the festive season.

Keep in mind over the festive season to:

  • Drink plenty of water (add lemon to assist your liver health).  Remember 1L for every 22kg.  3L per day is a healthy estimate unless you are a particularly small frame or quite over weight and need to hydrate and flush your body.
  • Consider adding Juice Plus to your routine.  I have been feeling fabulous since trialling it on myself.  It is a combination of fruits, vegetables and berries all harvested and freeze dried efficiently to capture maximum nutrients.  It is a great addition to the season that is upon us while we may celebrate a little more than normal or have a few later nights, perhaps change our regular routine because we are away visiting family or simply want to add more nutrition into the routine that you have already, to kick start 2015 with a bang!  It gives you that extra spring in your step to allow your body to meet all the demands of the Silly Season (& life in general!).  If this interests you please call me to talk further on 0438733103 or email janellecarolyn@gmail.com

  • Every day ensure you are eating living foods.  Be it green smoothies, salads, steamed vegetables, even a simple dose of barley grass powder in water while travelling.  Consider serving a raw cake at Christmas (there’s a great recipe here), or a delicious selection of salads for Christmas lunch.  I will post a Christmas ideas list in my next blog to inspire a whole food Silly Season!
  • Move your body!  Keep up the walking, swimming, dancing, gardening, running around with the kids, skipping, bike riding…you name it, just move your body!  However short or long you can manage, just do something everyday!
  • Stress can increase at this time of year so don’t forget to belly breathe.  Continue 7 rounds of 7, or perhaps you have a meditation you enjoy?  This will make the busy-ness a whole lot easier.

Please note CHOCOLATE WORKSHOPS:

I would be happy to run private raw chocolate workshops with you & a few friends in the lead up to Christmas if you simply give me a call and organise a date that is suitable before December 20th.  I have run many in the past & they are always a real hit (especially in the lead up to Christmas) as everyone loves chocolate BUT may not know about the healthy guilt free version!  Nicole (from Heavenly Cacao, whom I have presented my workshops with in the past) and I are just in the throws of confirming our venue for a raw chocolate workshop on Sunday December 14th.

I will be posting regularly on Facebook and Instagram while I’m away from Dec 23rd- February 12th so please connect on both and follow the phenomenal transformations that will be happening as people release not only the physical but also the emotional and spiritual aspects that have been creating dis-ease in their life.

I don’t leave just yet!  I’m just getting excited and letting you all know I have 3 and a half weeks left for face to face consultations, until I’m back in mid February.  However, I don’t mind setting up Skype consultations while I am away.  I would be happy to.

Please also remember the morning activation sessions are changing to the Botanic Gardens next week!  I intend to meet at the Gardens Entrance on Collins Ave at 5:45am to enjoy a walk around the gorgeous suburb of Edge Hill for 30mins (our normal walking time) & then enjoy breathing and exercises in our new setting of the Botanic Gardens.  Please bring a towel, water bottle and gold coin donation as normal.  I will post a reminder on Facebook early next week…I look forward to seeing you there!

Lastly, I have decided to decrease my blog posts and newsletters to once a month from now on (unless there are workshops or events coming up that I want you to know about) as I know that the stress of checking emails is a reality.  I know that your inbox can fill up all too quickly these days!

Well….this turned out to be not such a short post after all!

I hope you have a fabulous weekend and I look forward to seeing you or hearing from you soon.

Janelle.

Pregnancy

Hello readers

Thanks for joining me on this journey of health!

This week I want to share some information with you about pregnancy after it being brought to my attention by Tyler Tolman.

There are many things to consider both prior to getting pregnant & also during your beautiful 9 months of pregnancy.  Here are some wholesome suggestions to consider…

– Breathing: Do you breathe deeply?  Have you tried 7 rounds of 7?  Emphasis on breathing allows the body to excrete toxins, oxygenate every cell, feel energised, enhance the lymphatic system (collects garbage from our blood) and more.  While your body changes and prepares for creating a new being it needs to be oxygenated.  It will also assist with supporting the nervous system during this time.

– Sunshine: Vitamin D from the sun helps our mood, energy and bone health, to name a few.  It is essential to get some everyday – start with small amounts on as much of your body as possible. Try lying naked in your backyard, find a nude beach, or just get outside in your togs. Either way don’t assume that driving from A to B and exposing your arms to the sun is enough vitamin D for the day.

– Whole foods: Juices, dairy free smoothies, green smoothies (all providing concentrated nutrients), fresh fruit, steamed vegetables, listen to your cravings if you feel they are genuine but fill up on good nutrition at the same time.  Here’s a link to some great ideas on my blog…hereherehereherehere, here, & here – that should keep you going for a while!

– If you feel that you are not able to get these nutrients on a daily bases another suggestion or an additional add on would be to start taking Juice Plus – a new product that I am stocking in my clinic.  I am very excited about this product as I know that the fresh fruits and vegetables stored in the tapioca capsule go through a very strict, clean process to ensure the nutrients are well maintained – from paddock to capsule.  It is unbelievable what is inside  I feel this is a fabulous addition to include in your routine to ensure, along with lots of fruits and vegetables, you are those extra nutrients to support your body while it has extra demands.

– Good quality oils rubbed on your belly, breasts, hips, etc everyday.  Consider using coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil (this oil is very grounding), jojoba oil, rose hip oil.  There are many to choose from.

– Exercise: ensure daily walking (30mins or more), weights or strengthening exercises where you can to keep the body well adjusted and strong as it goes through changes, yoga is a fabulous strengthening exercise that also allows for a mind/body connection and concentration on breath.

– Support around you and healthy relationships so that you feel supported during this time of change, growth and creation. Choose to surround yourself with positive people.  This will uplift your soul, nourish your nervous system, allow you to enjoy the highs and feel supported during the trying times.

You may already know that I will be supporting Tyler Tolman in Bali this coming January!  People with chronic disease will be attending this 30 day fasting and cleansing program in order to heal their conditions.  This is something I am very passionate about and excited that I am able to work along side Tyler and support these individuals through their journey with my Naturopathic knowledge and skills in order to create healthy change and transformation in their lives.  If you are suffering from a chronic condition and feel this resonates with you then check out the program for this coming January right here.

Food Matters Live Screening

Happy Wednesday readers

I just wanted to make you aware of a fabulous FREE screening of numerous health and related documentaries available for the next 4 days.  You may have seen my post about it on Facebook 6 days ago.  It is apart of the Food Matters website.  Have you seen the Food Matters documentary?

This documentary alone is such a helpful place to start – a tool to help plant the right seeds.  It is a documentary that the owners of Food Matters first pulled together.  It was such a success that a whole movement has followed.  The documentary gives you a really fabulous understanding of how food DOES matter “You are what you eat”.  How it impacts our health and how we can be CONSCIOUS of our choices, with lots of interviews by leading experts in the field.  I also find it provides a great way to ‘teach’ others and give them a sound understanding without having to give them a lecture they may not want to hear – give them a copy of the film or notify them of this FREE offer.  I often lend out my copy to clients to watch if you are not able to buy a copy.  I currently have a Hungry Food Change DVD to give away also…let me have a think about that give away!  I’ll notify you on Facebook – so come on over and join the Seeds Of Health community!

However, there is more to it than the next 4 days…you are able to subscribe to FMTV here (Food Matters TV) for $8/month or $80 for the year and have access to a whole scope of DVD’s (some you can’t find elsewhere), plus recipes and yoga and exercise videos to get you moving at home if you can’t make it to a class because of kids, or other reasons.  Online versions suit some people but not all I realise.  It’s often nice to buy the hard copy and get a bunch of family or like minded friends together, make some healthy snacks and make an evening of it with ‘juicy’ discussions to follow.  Check out the shop here or I can do a bulk order if you know of a group that would benefit.

The reason I’m letting you know about this fabulous resource is because I stumbled upon it when I was enjoying one of the free documentaries (that are only available till Nov 4th!).  I felt that I had to share!  The topics and documentaries shared and discussed come from all angles – so I feel you can, in time, make your own educated decision, along with guidance from qualified professionals like myself if you have questions arise and feel you need support.  You are also able to enjoy other short videos online, available for free all year round, including TED talks, humorous health snippets, videos on waste, the flu shot, additives, benefits of meditation, etc – all available here.

As I mentioned there is only 4 days left to enjoy Q&A sessions with the makers of the films and the films themselves for free here.  I have managed to watch a few over the weekend and of an evening – enjoying the reminders, stories, reflections, lessons and sharing with those around me.  I love the diversity of the films!   One that I missed and am eager to watch is called Love Bomb.  The link to the synopsis is here.  This quote will give you a taste –

“If we were all committed to loving, like radically committed to loving, the world would be completely different, the world would shift.” Kate Blackson

Watching these DVD’s will broaden your mind!  Share them with friends and family and friends of friends.  Pass the message on if you feel it’s worth sharing! …I do!  The choices are endless, the empowerment is rich and you certainly become more conscious of the choices you make (one of my major aims at Seeds Of Health)!

Keep in mind to make changes step by step, bit by bit – not all at once.  Develop a foundation to build on, which i can help you with.  I am here to guide you when you have questions surrounding the myths, tricks, contradictions, alternatives, etc.  Keep in mind I offer the following services:

  • Setting up a clean food plan for the fortnight;
  • Clean out your panty and fridge to start over with a clean slate – remember I offer Pantry Clean Outs – where I come to your home and discuss the contents of your kitchen and home (eg. laundry, bathroom, etc) and discuss what to keep and throw out and WHY.  Most importantly I discuss alternatives and what to replace with and how to store things, what to buy and cook as alternatives.  Read more here on my services page.
Does your pantry look like this? Ingredients that you may not be aware of that are harming your health?

Does your pantry look like this? Ingredients that you may not be aware of that are harming your health?

  • Have a follow up consultation (or refer a friend or family member for an initial consultation) with a clear intention about what you want to heal or improve (or both! :).  I can also help you to decipher what your intention needs to be;
  • Have a BARS session  to clear subconscious thoughts patterns that no longer serve you around food or everyday choices you are making in your home, work or lifestyle that are holding you back from achieving a healthy, well balanced lifestyle full of happiness and vitality!;
  • If you feel you know what the alternatives are but don’t know what to cook then call me and let’s organise a food workshop – either privately or with a group of friends.  A lot of the topics that I cover are listed on my website here
  • Do you have a celebration coming up and want something delicious and fun to contribute to the party?!  Then research raw cakes and make one yourself for the first time or contact me and I can make you one for your celebration!;
  • Lastly, if you are familiar with the Food Matters crew and have watched some of their DVD’s over the years or have been to doing your own research and making changes to your home and diet, but still questioning why you are feeling low in energy, or can’t put a finger on something, perhaps we need to conduct a hair analysis test to clarify?  A hair analysis tests for vitamin and mineral deficiencies, moulds, parasites, electro magnetic radiation (EMR) and heavy metal toxicity – a combination or only one may be affecting your health and slowing down your progress to wellness.  Let’s work together on this one.

I hope you enjoy the films and resources on the Food Matters website!  Remember that I am here to guide and help you on your journey to wellness.  I look forward to your comments regarding the films you’ve seen, enjoyed, felt challenged by, resources you loved, etc.  There is so much to learn and share on this journey to wellness.  We just need to plant the seeds, which we wish to grow

Janelle

Please note: I receive no income from recommending Food Matters – I simply want to share this wonderful resource that we all have access to online!
