Is fasting really that hard?

WHY WOULD YOU FAST + IS IT REALLY THAT HARD?

The simple answer is a reset/reboot/detox/cleanse.

BUT, the more exciting & juicy answer is a letting go of the old to upgrade your current state of health. For a positive experience fasting should be done in a supportive & rich environment so that you fully understand what is important while fasting, so that there is joy & so that you have knowledge & support on hand if you are faced with a challenge or question why you are doing it. After a few fasts, some people may choose to fast alone at home, however some simply thrive in a group environment & simply find it a lot more fun!

IMG_5678.JPG

What are the benefits of fasting? There is bottomless pit of benefits to fasting! Really. It’s just sometimes a challenge to actually begin the fast! I personally believe fasting with others is so much easier AND a lot more fun. This allows for success! Once you take food out & you begin drinking juice your body receives a much needed break, because your body is not having to spend energy on digesting foods. With this time, your body can go about repairing old injuries, congested or overwhelmed organs, cleansing, repairing, healing. It is the fastest way to heal because your body is being given an environment where it can actually do it’s job of staying on top of it’s tasks! However, it often has backlog to deal with first because we are generally in the habit of eating too much food, eating when we aren’t hungry or eating foods that are not healing to our system.

What are the challenges of fasting? Depending on what our lifestyle has been like leading up to our first or next fast, will often determine our experience. We can however support our bodies by reducing certain foods & drink in the lead up to a fast to gently ease our way into it. Cutting wheat, dairy, meat, sugar, alcohol & caffeine begins a gentle detox in itself. I created a video here last year about the prep phase. Then once we step into a committed juice fast our body can really get to work! As I said depending on how our lifestyle has been & also how our body’s detox pathways are working will depend on what we experience during a fast. BUT the environment in which we fast is a huge factor as well! On my fasting retreat I prioritise the best possible environment & schedule so that there is connection with uplifting people, engagement of your mind during learning sessions & engagement of your senses with time in the sun & nature. It’s not just about eliminating food - it is so much more! I also ensure that where possible participants are encouraged to do enemas to really support their detox & cleanse. This reduces any detox symptoms & allows the body to release at a deeper level.

Should I do it with support? I recommend that if you don’t do a group fast you should definitely tee up an accountability buddy or friend so that you have someone to check in with along the journey. I also offer support for one on one clients via Zoom/Skype or in person if we are in the same town. It really does need to be tailored to the individual, which is why I feel it is so important to work with a practitioner who has a lot of experience with fasting & assessing individual needs. I have been fasting since 2009 (10 years) and am fortunate to have worked alongside Tyler Tolman at his 7 & 30 day fasts in Bali. This gave me a lot of insight & knowledge to be able to support individuals with their specific needs. It really is so much more about how to create the right environment & support than it is about what we are taking away (food). If done correctly fasting can actually be a joyful experience. I have had some of my clearest insights & most pure connections while fasting. You can read more about my fasting journey here.

Longevity

My favourite word of all time... LONGEVITY.  I love everything about this word. The positive frame it shapes around ageing, the possibilities, the cultural discoveries, the joy, the connection, the ease, the daily habits, the self awareness - it all lights me up. So let me shine some light on how you can enhance your longevity.

IMG_9813.jpg

Longevity simply means - a long duration of individual life.

I notice a lot of people have hang ups around the word ageing.  There is fear attached to another birthday, another year.  I don't feel the same way and I'm really proud of that.  Each year brings more lessons, more connection, more discoveries, more opportunities. There is so much to discover and learn on this planet.  Over the year I have become equipped with oodles of tools on how to support my body and mind, nourish my hormones and focus on the things that are important for healthy ageing.  If I need to shift gears because I'm noticing changes in my body - I can.  I want you to either develop or enhance your own personal awareness around longevity, leaning on me as a guide and support.

The above pic was taken recently on day 4 of the Seeds Of Health fasting retreat at Mossman Gorge. We had been fasting for 3 full days and I felt amazing.  My body always slips into a place of ease when fasting - less work to do and therefore more time for regeneration and repair (the next fasting retreat is September 12-16th, 2018 so keep your eyes peeled!)

Here are some hot tips to assist you with your LONGEVITY...

  • Fast!  If fasting for a day or more scares you then try intermittent fasting - Have an early dinner then hydrate and skip breakfast, being prepared to munch of something wholesome and packed with nutrition at brunch/lunch.  Fasting repairs your DNA - can you believe that?!  Longer fasts give you faster results - this September (12-16th) there is another fully supported fasting retreat coming up!  Or reach out for guidance prior to that, to fast at home.
  • Hydrate.  Good quality water is a must here.  If you are hydrating yet filling your system with chlorinated and fluoridated water then it's creating extra work for your body.  Find some spring water in your area or purchase a Zazen water filter - I personally love mine!  Have used it for 3.5 years now.
  • Support stress within your body. Exercise is a great way to counteract and release stress (move your body in a way you love...me personally - hiking, yoga & swimming).  Herbs are another great way to support your body through times of stress.  Superfeast herbs are something I use daily to tonify and support my system, in hot drinks or smoothies, however through a Naturopath consultation I can refine the exact ones that you need in a variety of forms.  An iridology assessment (picture of your iris) assists me with this understanding. A liver cleanse blend could be the place to start?!  Floating is another beautiful way to surrender & give back to yourself when feeling stressed.  If you are a first time user remember to make the most of my coupon code!  Or for your own at home remedy - meditate!  Stress ageing the body faster than anything else.  Meditation is a free, at-your-fingertips tool that can reverse this ageing and combat your stress.  Deepak is holding another FREE 21 day mediation challenge on March 19th, so make sure you sign up!
  • Eat plants!  Upping your plants - VEGETABLES AND FRUITS - definitely enhances longevity.  Adding enzymes, nutrition, vitamins, minerals, life force, hydration, trace minerals, antioxidants, etc to your system to repair your cells.  My social media channels hopefully provide inspiration for you here or my blog has recipes on it.  During a Naturopathic consultation the recipes, links & inspiration are more specific for you as an individual.
  • Tibetan Rites - these 5 exercises are known as the Fountain Of Youth.  I wrote a blog post about them a few years back.  The perfect tune up for your endocrine system each day.
  • Reducing and eliminating chemicals in your lifestyle. This is an enormous topic which I am super passionate about so perhaps another blog post needs to be created?  I have been chipping away at this in my own lifestyle for years.  Constantly upgrading my choices and switching to cleaner options for my body and the Earth.  For now I'll just list some of the alternatives I can support you with - chemical free menstrual cups and pads, chemical free beauty, perfume and cleaning products.  There is a whole chapter about Conscious Living (Chemical free living) in my Nurturing 9 ebook which you can download via my shop or on Amazon for your kindle.  Comment below or shoot me an email if you are wanting personalised support around this change to a chemical free lifestyle.  My Kitchen Detox packages are a great wholistic way to kick this change off!  Otherwise, a gathering with other women to discuss any of these topics is a beautiful way to spend the arvo - I love bringing people together to enhance their wellness.

Having others to share JOY with or lean on is ridiculously underestimated.  COMMUNITY is where it's at.  Coming together to share, laugh, cry, talk, inspire and be with is missing in our fast paced, online world.  Don't forget your neighbours.  The Blue Zones of the world - where the centenarians - thrive are fully aware of this concept.  I find the Blue Zones inspiring!  It's not all about how many carrots you eat, okay?!

My fasting journey...

MY FASTING JOURNEY - a little summary

Back in 1997 (I was 14yrs old – Grade 9 at school) I did the liver cleanse diet.  This was to help my skin - as I struggled with acne.  I did it with my mum for support – cutting out meat, dairy, wheat, sugar, etc.  It didn’t phase me at the time, which I look back & think is laughable as my friends ate chocolate around me & I didn't flinch.  Mum helped a lot with food prep.  She is creative so the food was interesting.  I do remember a lot of cauliflower...

This year I have co-facilitated 2 online juice fasts which allows you to feel supported while fasting but in the comfort of your own home.

This year I have co-facilitated 2 online juice fasts which allows you to feel supported while fasting but in the comfort of your own home.

Throughout my teens I tried a lot of things for my acne so was used to cutting out things.  When I had to say goodbye to cheese I remember it being a very devastating day!  My salad sandwiches no longer had flavour (or so I thought at the time...).  I have learnt so much since then about awesome ways to upgrade them and add creaminess... hommus, avocado, pesto, beetroot dip, etc.

In 2010 in my final year of studying Naturopathy I remember doing a 3 day water fast.  I was paralysed in bed.  It was horrible!  I didn't prep properly – I don’t even know what program if any I was following?  I know in hindsight I wasn’t drinking enough water.  I was home alone & mentally had to talk my mind into moving my limbs.  It was so weird and scary.  I also remember choosing to climb Mt Warning on the last day of my cleanse.  Hmmm… not so smart?!  So I got scared about having energy for the hike and broke my fast with something that was being cooked for dinner that night which had dairy and wheat in it (homemade pizza from memory), classic unprepared fast exit.  Haha! I learnt so much from this fast.  I was juicing a lot at this time - often daily. This daily routine didn't help my fast as I now know I was so unprepared physically, mentally, emotionally & understand the depth of preparation required for a smooth & easier fast.

In 2011 I was living in Perth & went to one of Tyler Tolman's weekend courses called Heal Thyself Express. Following those 2 days I kicked off a 30 day cleanse.  It started with a 4 day colon cleanse and for the remaining days I ate 1 bag of pulse (mixture of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, etc) & organic apples if need be. I got really tired of the sweetness and just wanted green leaves. I noticed a lot during this time in relation to my hunger, the season I chose to fast (winter in Perth or just prior to), how socially ‘awkward’ it was for others - I wasn’t phased when joining people for dinner or at the staffroom table. I found the social aspect fascinating! I was there for the company but there was so much stigma (& curiousity understandably) attached to eating less or better still cleansing or fasting. This is also where my fascination of water consumption kicked in & how different I felt when really well hydrated. I was always a pretty good water drinker but drinking a lot (1 litre) first upon waking was fascinating to daily over a month.  It is now a comfortable habit.  I began to notice how well I felt once hydrated and how my hunger decreased.  FYI: Hunger is often confused for dehydration.

With Don & Tyler Tolman in Bali working at their 7 day juice fast

2012 I attended one of Tyler’s 7 day juice fasts in Bali. I was looking for something to complement my Naturopathy that wasn’t supplement based and discovered his fast. The 7 day fast ended up being 2 days juice and 7 days water.  My eczema was giving me grief at the time and the juices made it itchy, so I dived in as the environment was supportive. Holy moly! Wowza. I loved the enemas and began to understand physically, mentally and emotionally how they shifted things at another level.  I released something that resembled black tar on day 4 after stopping juices and transitioning to water.  Oh my the smell! It was fascinating.  I remember feeling so damn happy and also gained further understanding of the body and what it can store. During this fast I gained more understanding of emotions being integrated, episodes of lethargy vs heaps of energy, dizzy spells, euphoria, etc and how to handle them confidently.  I continued the water on the plane trip back to Cairns and for another couple of days in Cairns, until my house mates started cooking and I caved with coconut water & fruit. Pretty darn awesome post fast transition (exit) this time because I was mentally & physically prepared due to the education around breaking a fast. Community support filled so many of my senses while not eating along with sunshine and different daily practices. I understood the potency of support, community & 'feeding' the body in other ways.  It's not just about stopping eating for those newbies out there!  This is why I feel so passionate to share more on fasting and have created this event next year!

In 2012 I went back to the same 7 day fasting retreat in Bali as a volunteer and worked behind the scenes with 28 people juice fasting while doing adventure activities (to keep their minds busy) eg. whitewater rafting, hiking, etc. This was amazing to be apart of the team and learn more!

2014 I did a 21 day retreat on the Central Coast of NSW which integrated 18 days juicing.  Again I did 3 days juice and the rest water because I wanted to clear my eczema – it would come and go over the years, at times really bad outbreaks and then leave for years. Through exploring fasting & understanding my body more I now understand the triggers causing it & also what has needed to be released through fasting and cleansing to allow my body to repair the eczema long term.  The 18 days juicing was combined with Vipassana Meditation & Rebirthing (a breathing technique to release emotions).  Full on and all complementary to each other - a whole body overhaul. I learnt more about my body and mind on this fast.  Lots of emotional triggers and also the fastest clearing of a coldsore ever while fasting on water & actioning a salt flush.

Breaking my 18 day fast with fresh watermelon - eaten with my hands. Absolute connection and gratitude.

4 years into my business, in 2015, I was asked to support Tyler as his Naturopath at his 30 day Heal Thy Self program in Bali. This was again fascinating to watch 16 people go deep on a juice fast (juices for a few days of preparation followed by 18 days on water).  So many emotions and layers were released and processed. It was incredible to be observe and support. I really began to understand iridology from a completely different angle.  Became more deeply fascinated by the metaphysics of disease and really felt in awe of what it takes to run a retreat.  Bringing together so many practitioners, timetables, communication, juice/food prep, music, etc it’s all done with ease when the prep work is done – so much unseen work behind the scenes.  All while keeping the mood high and emotions supported.

In the last 4 years I have done a bunch of different 3, 5 & 7 day fasts always trying something different to discover the nurture balance.  Intermittent fasting has been an easy & accessible way of fasting day to day & giving my digestive system a break.  An aspect of fasting I am really intrigued by as a woman. I feel we need more yin as women. Herbal teas, softness, community, etc.  I feel so damn passionate about providing supportive fasts that encompass and really support the emotional needs while sticking to guidelines to get results. I simply don't believe in measuring the in-goings (juice/water) and out-goings (poo/gallstones/parasites) for results. I could talk for days about my love and fascination of fasting - oh wait I am next February!

I have one of my mini fasts documented on my blog from 4 years ago.

I am excited to let you know about a supported fast I have coming up in February next year.  A fully supported 4 day fast that really emphasises the pre and post aspect of fasting, while really immersing yourself in all of the beneficial aspects of a successful fast - fun, movement (yoga & qi gong), community, sunshine, hydration, education & more, with 2 qualified professionals.  Check out this amazing opportunity here!

We have a special on for 2 more days to save $100!  Only selected accommodation remaining.  Please reach out for a 15min free consultation to answer any of your health concerns or questions around the retreat!  They are available for next week only - bookings essential!  Call me to book your spot.  Come the start of 2018, you will be grateful you have put aside some time to get back on track after the festivities of Christmas & the New Year.

I am offering 15minute free consultations next week to answer any health concerns and questions around the retreat.  Bookings essentials!  Hit comment to reach out and book your spot or call me on 0438733103. I'd love to help you on your health journey.

Fasting reverses ageing

Yes, that’s right!  Fasting does reverse ageing.  When we fast we give the body a chance to rejuvenate, repair and rebuild.  Digestion over-rules other jobs in the body, so therefore if we are constantly eating 3 meals a day plus snacks, the body does not get a chance to rejuvenate, repair and rebuild.

Fasting can range from simply skipping a meal, to intermittent fasting (which I wrote about 2 weeks ago on my blog), fasting for 24 hours or perhaps even a 3-40 day water or juice fast.  All forms of fasting give the body a chance to repair and rebuild.

I want to continue on and add more value to my previous post from 2 weeks ago, about Intermittent Fasting.  If you have not seen the BBC show Eat, Fast and Live Longer, please watch it.  It gives you a visual about what happens to the body when we fast, be it for a short time, a long time or alternate days.  If you would prefer the words, instead of the video here is the link.

With Winter here, it is important to consider the benefit of fasting for our immune systems.  Fasting actually boosts our immune system!  According to Dr Mercola, after 3 days of fasting your body can regenerate an entire new immune system because it triggers the body to start producing new white blood cells (the guys that fight infection!).  However, fasting from lunch on Monday to lunch on Tuesday would also boost your immune system.  Just ensure that you are drinking at least 3 litres of water while fasting, to assist in flushing toxins out.

For those of you who began my challenge to intermittently fast 2 weeks ago, I would love to know how you are finding the process?  I feel it is important to clarify the best time to intermittently fast.  From 6pm (or after an early dinner) till 10am/11am the following morning is ideal.  This not only improves our sleep because our body can focus on resting rather than digesting, but it also assists our body to regenerate and properly eliminate.  Our body is in the elimination phase up until midday of each day.  By eating first thing in the morning we are hindering this elimination process, where our body is cleansing and getting rid of unwanted matter.

Fasting, both intermittently, on alternate days and also for longer periods has numerous benefits for the body.  Did you know that the lifespan of individuals extended during The Depression of the 1930’s, despite people having to eat less?  Calorie restriction is the only thing that significantly extends life in mammals.  Other benefits include:

  • Boosting your immune system
  • Regenerating your body giving your liver, for example, some time to do it’s job..DETOX!  (It is the largest detoxifying organ in our body)
  • Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF-1) levels decrease during fasting, however also stay down for a period of time once returning to normal eating.  This assists in lowering your risk of colon cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer
  • Gives your digestive system a chance to repair
  • Gives your eliminatory system a chance to excrete old matter that can build up on the lining of your colon over time (Elimination/Cleansing is greatly enhanced if you are incorporating enemas and specific colon cleanse ingredients into your fast.  Please ask me for more details about this if you would like to know more?  Water, deep breaths and movement (eg.walking) greatly assist also!)
  • It improves your body’s ability to better utilise the food eaten, when you transition back to food
  • Weight loss occurs due to the body being able to burn up stored fat and toxins
  • The body’s production of growth hormones increase after a fast, this stimulates greater muscle growth and higher fat metabolism

Why not give it a go?!  Listen to your body and start on a day that you feel prepared and able to rest, walk, get in to the sun, etc.  Or perhaps you’d like to try fasting for a day with a friend?

I’d love to know if you have tried it before or if you a willing to give it a go?

Have a beautiful day

Juice fast in Bali!

Hello healthy readers!

Well it’s been 2 weeks since I returned home from assisting to run the inspiring and fabulous juice fast in Bali, with the amazing Don and Tyler Tolman.

I feel motivated, clean and more than happy knowing that I have added to my fasting experiences and topped up my knowledge, expanded my consciousness, as well as making some beautiful connections with mostly Aussies that I will continue to cherish.

There were 28 ‘fasters’ in Bali that successfully completed a 7 day juice fast.  Well done to them!  It was amazing to see them ride the highs and lows of cleansing their temple.   Each day we were all involved in morning rituals that allowed us to begin the day in the best way possible.

Our morning rituals consisted of waking between 5am and 6am (on alternate days) joining together at the main room to do a coconut oil pull (to assist in drawing toxins out), hydrate with 1L of water and then make our way to the beach which was about a 10 minute walk where we would ideally be greeted by a perfect sunrise.  In the pavilion by the beach we would either do a yoga session with a visiting teacher or the 5 Tibetan Rites followed by various resistance exercises with Tyler.  On non-yoga days we would follow our exercises with a walk/run on the sand and a swim in the ocean.  I had such a thrill one morning body surfing some waves all the way in to shore.  It’s been too long!

Following our morning beach session participants were given around 1 hour to do an enema if they wished, gwasha their bodies (a fabulous mixture to cleanse the body and prepare it to absorb the suns rays) and get in to the sun before our morning knowledge sessions focusing on one of the 7 principles of health.

We would start our morning knowledge sessions with an uplifting 5 minute dance session which would wake everyone up and inspire them to switch their brains on & get ready to learn!  This was definitely one of my favourite parts of the day!

If we were lucky enough we would get a ‘question and answer’ session with both Don and Tyler where we were allowed to leave any questions we liked in the question box & they would spend 15minutes answering as many as they could.  This really allowed the topics to expand!

In the afternoon we would head off on adventures ranging from white water rafting and massages in Ubud to whole food workshops with Chef Cynthia Louise!  This allowed us to observe ourselves putting the mornings session in to practice, in the real world.

loved hearing both Tyler and Don share their passion, giving us all a greater understanding about ancient practices and what choices we can make to better our health in this life time.

I am so excited to be able to hopefully run some of my own juice fasts in Cairns in 2014.  It would be so wonderful to bring a community together to fast and learn in order to raise our consciousness and better our health so each and every day can be better and better!

Finally, fasting gives our body a chance to cleanse and recharge while re-programming things at a cellular level.  I often visualise these little guys (our cells) hard at work.  It’s simply amazing what they can achieve and how this positively impacts our mind!

Please leave a comment below or contact me via my email (janellecarolyn@gmail.com), my Facebook page (Seeds Of Health) or phone (0438 733 103) to let me know if you are one of those KEEN juice fasters for 2014?!  If you have a group that would like to fast together, outside of Cairns, I would be happy to travel.

Signing off with a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and an excited feeling inside of what possibilities lay ahead for 2014!

Fasting

Fasting can either mean a water or juice fast.  A rest from digesting, which allows our body to put energy into healing and repairing.

This is my 5th fast.  In the past I have done a two 3 day juice fasts, a 30 day adventure (starting with a 4 day colon cleanse, a salt flush and then 26 days on Pulse – ask if you would like to know more), along with a 9 day fast (4 days of juice fasting followed by 5 days of water) and I am now at the tail end of a 4 and a half day juice fast where I intend to enjoy green smoothies and fresh fruit for another day and a half, making 6 days altogether of juices, smoothies, fruit and water.  My digestive system is loving the rest and I am feeling more agile and have a much clearer mind.

I have learnt a lot on this particular fast & have really enjoyed playing with new juicing recipes.  It has been interesting doing it with another and making juice for both of us as I have had to plan ahead to make 5.5-6L of juice per day.  The support has been great, knowing that someone else is going through the same experience as you, no matter how different it is.  Also, sharing a dinner or juice together and not being tempted by the smells coming out of the kitchen.  I highly recommend having a buddy!

It is my first fast after learning so much about fasting from Tyler Tolman in Bali last September.  My first 3 day fasts were done a while ago and I wasn’t aware of the importance of oil pulling, enemas, breathing, sunshine, Gwasha, exercise, etc while fasting.  I also didn’t have as much knowledge as I do now about breaking a fast.  During this fast I have felt more at ease and confident with how to approach a juice fast while fitting it in around a normal working week.  If you are just starting out with fasting, be willing to explore it and play with recipes and be kind to yourself if things don’t go to plan.  There’s always another opportunity.  Each fast is a chance to learn something new and remember for the following fast.  We should all be doing at least one fast a year or if you choose to one a month to give the body a greater chance to heal and repair.  Some people fast one day a week on just juices or smoothies, which is excellent, however I would still recommend a longer fast each year.

Here’s a glimpse into one of my days of fasting…Day 5.  I started my day with some coconut oil pulling, 1 litre of water (this should happen every morning whether you’re on a juice fast or not), some yoga and then an enema.   I have been feeling amazing on juice and the enema just topped it off!  This morning, being Saturday, was a perfect time to do an enema as I didn’t have to rush off anywhere.  After my enema I had a shower & used a cleansing ritual called Gwasha.  Gwasha is a specific mix of pure alcohol and aluminium free bi carb soda.  I learnt about this through Tyler Tolman and know that it cleanses the skin beautifully and should be followed by applying coconut oil all over the body and getting into the sun for a little while, to soak up some vitamin D.  So that is exactly what I did… while sipping on coconuts!

I would  liked to have been doing enemas every day on this fast but it didn’t happen due to a very busy week.  Enemas are essential if you are needing a good cleanse and trying to rid something acute or chronic within the body.

The things I have learnt this week are:

  • I realised how beneficial it was to have a variety of high water content vegetables so that your juice goes further when making such a large quantities.  For example, watermelon, pineapple, coconut water, cucumbers, celery, etc.
  • I have tended in the past to make my juice as needed (except for the 9 day fast with Tyler Tolman, as the juices were made for us).  However, I actually think making a larger quantity of a morning for breakfast and lunch, for 2 people, actually motivated me more and saved time with prep and cleaning up.  I just had to be organised.
  • Coconut oil pulling is such a fantastic technique to draw toxins out of the body.  This is done daily & can be continued when your fast is finished.  It is also known to whiten teeth.  You simply place 1 tablespoon of coconut oil into your mouth upon waking and swish it around for 5-20mins.  It is important to adopt this as part of a fast to allow the toxins to exit your system that bit faster.  There is a wealth of information here http://www.oilpulling.com or a great book available called Oil Pulling Therapy by Bruce Fife.
  • It has been excellent setting an intention each morning at the start of my yoga practice or during my breathing exercises while walking or sitting.  I would like to continue this.
  • It is really important to listen to your body on the fast and rest when your body asks for it.  Even if it is just a 10min rest.  I found myself doing this when I got home from work some afternoons and feeling recharged from it.
  • If you do feel like you just can’t continue on juice because you are too hungry the first thing you should do is drink 1 litre of water and wait 20mins, the other option is to have an apple as apples assist in cleaning the colon.
  • My body temperature dropped while fasting so it is important to plan fasting around the seasons or just remember a cardigan/jacket if working in air-conditioning.  Lucky I live in Cairns!
  • I have been able to develop a better relationship with food.  During periods of stress I tend to overeat, no matter how healthy the food is.  This fast has given me the ability to slow down and enjoy the smells and each ingredient and each mouthful of flavour (I tried to remember to do this with my juices).  My body performs a lot better on less.
  • Breaking a fast can often be tricky.  It is important to transition to smoothies and then to fruits and vegetables that have a high water content like watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes, pineapple, etc.  Raw salads with lemon juice and sea salt for flavouring, as well as home made vegetable soups.

I leave you with a gorgeous picture of the view from my back steps.

Please post a comment on the blog or Facebook if you have any questions/comments.

Happy juicing!
