What I learnt from my accident

3 months ago today, on January 7th, I had a motorbike accident, while learning to ride a dirt bike in the back cane paddock.  It was a hot afternoon so I decided to wear shorts (worst idea ever!).  Anyway, as I was progressing well with my new skills I decided to give it a go changing gears.  This is where it all went wrong.  30minutes later & I was at the emergency department of the hospital with what I thought wasn't too bad a situation.  

However, it was only last Monday (11 weeks later) that I got my FINAL silver Acticoat (best invention ever!) dressing off!!! It's been 12 weeks since my accident & my final burn has healed over completely! What an interesting process it has been to heal my burns coupled with healing my heart from heart break - which i know plays on the immune system. I am now in the phase of treating my scars with aloe vera & a cream I've made up with zinc, lavender essential oil, calendula & an amazing oil called aesculapius containing silica, vitamin E & vitamin A.
I am also keeping up with lots of internal support (immune boosting herbs & gut support).  I was super excited about my first SWIM🏊‍♀️ which happened to be at Stoney's & then followed by an ocean dip in Sydney visiting family.  Oh bliss!!!  I'm a fish, so staying out of the water has been the least of my worries, but a challenge.  I'm yet to get back into swimming at the local Tobruk pool.  I didn't want the chlorine to affect my healing & dry everything out - so this extra week has been needed.

The pictures above show the day of my first solo motorbike ride, then some of the phases of my top and bottom leg, with the final pic (bottom right) showing my leg on Monday when the final dressing came off. It has been so interesting to watch the different phases. One of those phases being infection sadly - which i learnt deep burns are so susceptible to, particularly in the humidity of Cairns summers. Also getting the right treatment from the get go with Acticoat which I wasn't guided towards by the nurse I was seeing at the time, until I got a second opinion on the deepest burn at week 4. The susceptibility to infection with a deep burn is a no brainer really, but until going through it & learning the different phases of a burn i really thought my body could handle it. Throw in all the factors & mix it around with something called 'life' & I've learnt I need to surrender, trust the process & just put one foot in front of the other & continue learning.

One of the most interesting parts of my accident was being open to the lessons for emotional and spiritual growth.  Accidents are often related to built up anger.  I've had a lot to reflect on and feel that I have popped out the other side with more lessons than one (wear long pants on motorbikes!)... Mishaps can teach us so much when we are open to seeing the lesson under it.  I know I'm keeping things quite vague with my 'lessons' but I'm leaving that for me to ponder on and dive deep in to.  I'm sure you can use the reflection for your own journey?

I created a few collages of my mapped journey - I found it fascinating to watch the changes of my wounds.

Some of the ridges that were forming were concerning me, however with the help of Jaeme Zwart at Trinity Breast & Plastic Surgery, a very caring friend, I was guided in the right direction and also given a couple of treatments of silver nitrate to reduce the raised scar tissue & allow the wound the heal smoother and faster.

Below are 2 recipes for you to create & enjoy with 5 chosen aphrodisiac ingredients. Their benefits are outlined below:

BANANA - rich in vitamin B’s & potassium which are needed for sexual hormone production. These nutrients are also key to muscle strength.

CACAO - the natural properties stimulate the senses & heighten feelings of joy & pleasure. It’s contains the “love” chemical releasing dopamine.

VANILLA - soothes emotional tension & reduces anxiety & stress while stimulating sexual desire. It has a euphoric effect on the brain & central nervous system to combat sexual debilitation.  

BUTTERFLY PEA - a sexual enhancer which also supports fertility & correction menstrual disorders.

SCHIZANDRA - increases mens staying power & stimulates sensitivity in female genitalia.

 

Aphrodisiac Parfait

Chocolate Layer

170g frozen mango

1 fresh date

20g Heavenly Cacao cacao powder

¼ tsp vanilla paste, powder or extract

½ tsp Superfeast Schizandra berry powder

Butterfly pea layer

300g young coconut flesh

2 tsp Just Blends butterfly pea flower powder

Pink Layer

3 frozen bananas

1tsp Just Blends freeze dried Pitaya powder

Directions

Blend and pour each layer into two glasses, starting with the chocolate layer.  Store the glasses in the freezer while making the next layer.

You will need to rinse your blender before starting each layer to ensure vibrant colours.

Top with coconut chips.

 

Sexy Time Chocolates

Coating

100g coconut paste

50g cacao butter

1/8 vanilla powder

3 tsp Just Blends freeze dried Pitaya powder

30g maple syrup

Filling

50g Heavenly Cacao basic dark chocolate or 70% raw cacao bar

40g cashew butter

35g maple syrup

¼ tsp Superfeast Schizandra berry powder

Pinch of Himalayan salt

Pinch of vanilla powder

Directions

Coating

1) Melt the coconut paste, cacao butter with the vanilla in a glass bowl over hot water, stirring frequently

2) Once melted, whisk in the Pitaya powder

Filling

1) In a glass bowl over warm water, melt and mix the cashew butter, maple syrup, salt and vanilla

2) While that’s happening, melt your chocolate in a glass bowl over water or make it.

3) Take 50g of the chocolate and gently mix it into the cashew mixture

4) Mix in the Schizandra powder

5) Put in chocolate moulds and place in the freezer until hard, approx. 1 hour.

6) Enrobe the chocolates in the coating and set in the fridge

7) Decorate if desired.

Fertility...by Pettina

Hello 2017!  Fertility Resolutions.

Who else is excited for what 2017 will bring us?  What’s your New Year’s resolution? 

If having a baby is featured on your plans for 2017, I’d like to share some tips and advice with you.  Whether you’ve only just started trying or whether you’ve been trying for some time, there is sure to be something for everybody.  

First advice is to let go of any expectations. 

Planning before conception is unnecessary, there can be a tendency to want to control and plan all the details, like what month you’d like your child to be born in, or when you’ll start to buy their first essential baby equipment, these thought processes has your logical brain (the left hemisphere) kicking in and taking over, when really the subtler instinct of the right brain is required.  Stay positive but detached from any outcomes.   It can be fun to use visualisation techniques during your fertile period, imagining seeing the little sperm joining with your egg, travelling along the fallopian tubes and finding a cushy home to implant in the uterus are great, but just know that it will happen when the time is right. 

Second advice is to be healthy.  Rather than focusing on how you can have a baby, focus on how you can be as fit and healthy as you possibly can.  Look after yourself, enjoy nutritious wholesome foods, and above all relax.  

Let’s not forget sex.  It’s pretty important when it comes to conceiving and I know that’s a fairly obvious statement.   But just like my first advice of relaxing and enjoying yourself, sex doesn’t need to become a chore.  There’s a tendency to feel pressured around the time you should be ovulating to have sex as often as possible.  Rather than having sex every day over 4-5 days, then no sex or irregular sex during your infertile period.  It is helpful to continue to listen to your own bodily desires.  Having regular sex helps improve sperm quality,  and a good rule of thumb in conceiving is having sex every 3 days throughout your entire cycle.   Take the opportunity, as it certainly doesn’t hurt to plan an extra romantic evening around the day you’re likely to be ovulating.    

Supplements to support fertility

Preparing your body for pregnancy is important.  A great way to do that is to incorporate a 2 week detox cleanse two-three months before you start trying.  Ask Janelle how she can support you through this process.  Herbs are a great way to support the organs of elimination, ensuring your body gets a thorough flush.  The process should also include nutrients to support the liver, as it is a key organ in detoxification as well as hormonal balance. 

Other supplements to consider include a high quality pre-natal supplement that provide the key nutrients, iodine, selenium, zinc and inositol to support thyroid health a key player in optimal fertility.  It should also include activated B vitamins especially folate and B12.       

A healthy pregnancy and baby begins with the health of the ova and sperm.   The newly conceived embryo in the early stages relies on the health of the ova and sperm to ensure it divides properly, so that implantation and a healthy pregnancy can occur.   Supplementing with Coenzyme Q10, particularly its active form Ubiquinol, has shown in studies to both improve egg and sperm quality and increase fertilisation rates.  Coq10 mostly resides within the cell membranes of the mitochondria – the power house of the cell and is a powerful antioxidant.  Researchers believe supplementing with Coq10 helps restore energy to the cells, whilst also inhibiting DNA oxidation and protecting the genetic code.   

Herbal tinctures can also be created to support reproductive health, both as tonics for the reproductive organs and by providing the libido with a healthy boost.  Ask Janelle about her Aphrodisiac blend that can help support your fertility.

Guest post: Surviving the Silly Season

The festive season is upon us, and we all like to give ourselves permission to relax a little bit more, and maybe even enjoy something from the ‘naughty’ list, after all it is the perfect time of year to do this.  The question is then -  how do we enjoy the holiday spirt, without feeling guilty afterwards.  A couple of simple little tricks can be the key. 

First tip:-  Plan in advance.  Start thinking now how you can be friendly to your liver and instead of having every drink that is offered to you on the day– plan to have some ingredients ready on the day to make some festive mocktails – everyone would like to join in then and nobody feels like they are missing out.   This can be done with your sweet treats also.  Make some miniature energy balls and make them into little snow men – they’ll be sure to be the most popular treat of the day.  A savoury option is perfect too!  Pinterest is fabulous for ideas!

Second tip:- In the days leading up to Christmas be really conscious of your food choices, being a little bit naughty on Christmas, means you need to be extra good leading up to it.  Even if that means for only 2 or 3 days in the week leading up – give back to your body on those days.  Make some extra green smoothies and/or take an extra long walk, or go for that jog you’ve been meaning to go on.  Then of course there is New Years – so again plan for 2 or 3 days where you are going to be really good leading up to it. 

Third tip, for good luck:- Think about your motivator.  Are you going to be extra mindful over Christmas for yourself and reap the benefits of your body loving you back, or maybe you have a loved one that you want to be there that much more for, who can motivate you.  Or even planning a week’s detox in the New Year, which will set you up beautifully for the coming adventures of the New Year. 

The most important thing is to enjoy, relax and be mindful, after all laughter and fun, really is our best medicine.   

I couldn't agree more about the laughter Pettina!  I would also love to add one tip that I feel will be super useful during the festive season is to not eat your last meal too late!  If you have a HUGE Christmas feast, give your body a break in the evening and drink water or fast the following morning until 11am and just drink water and herbal tea.  You'll have a great evacuation (which makes anyone feel amazing!) as your body would have had a rest and time to repair.

Peppermint Muesli Slice

I love this muesli bar recipe because its low in fructose and is yummy!  I find takes less time to make than energy balls & you don’t have to roll each individual ball, just simply press and bake in the oven!

Ingredients for Step 1

1 cup walnuts

1 cup pepitas

¼ cup almonds

¼ cup macadamias/cashews

Step 1

Put all all of the dry ingredients into the food processor (S blade) and grind into a crumbly nut mixture.

Ingredients Step 2

¼ coconut oil (melted)

¼  cup rice malt syrup (100% fructose free) 

½ cup sunflower seeds

½ cup pepitas

½ cup dried unsweetened organic cranberries

¼ cup coconut chips

½ tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

5 drops peppermint essential oil

Add the above ingredients to the food processor containing the crumbly nut mixture and grind (you may need to stop and scrape down the sides several times until uniform dough is formed).

Press in shallow baking tin and bake in oven for 15-20 minutes. 

While still warm, slice the bars into desired sizes, then put into the fridge in an air tight container.  

5 Ways to Nourish your Thyroid

The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland that resides in front of your throat and under your Adam's apple with an important function of producing and releasing hormones (T4 & T3). These hormones along with the well known pancreatic hormone insulin and cortisol are responsible for regulating your metabolism, providing energy to your cells & regulating your sex hormones.

The function of the thyroid is both simple yet complex. It begins in the brain with an initial signal from the pituitary gland to release a hormone that then stimulates the thyroid to produce and release its hormones. This is not the complete picture however, as we need to ensure the hormones have been converted into the correct form which allows the hormone to enter your cells and complete the required tasks, of metabolising, producing energy, and interacting with other hormones.  Ensuring this final step means no annoying symptoms like fatigue, poor memory, morning stiffness and difficulty losing weight. You don’t need to be experiencing all of the symptoms to indicate your cells have low levels of thyroid hormones.   Key symptoms to look out for include:

·      Lethargy                      

·      Sensitivity to cold     

·      Heat intolerance

·      Mood swings

·      Headaches

·      Vertigo

·      Deafness

·      PMS

·      Voice change

·      Loss of libido

·      Susceptibility to viral infections

·      Unexplained weight gain

·      Difficulty losing weight 

The next question is, how do we look after our thyroid and its hormones?  There are a number of important steps you can take to nourish and support your thyroid and improve these important last steps of the thyroids journey into your cells.   

 

EAT FOODS THAT NOURISH

Include in your diet at least 3 times a week foods high in iodine.  Iodine is an essential mineral required by the thyroid for production of its hormones. 

·      Kelp

·      Wakame/nori etc

·      Oysters

·      Cranberries

·      Mushrooms

·      Fish

·      Dulse flakes (yummy added to your salads and soups)

·      Sunflower Seeds

 

Another important thyroid mineral is selenium, which particularly helps with the conversion into a more useable form.  Foods high in selenium include:

·      Fish

·      Oysters

·      Alfalfa

·      Celery

·      Cashews/brazil nuts

·      Onion

·      Garlic

·      Broccoli

·      Mushrooms

 

FOODS TO AVOID can depend on the individual, however as a guide can include common inflammatory triggers, which can disrupt the balance of conversion, such as gluten, dairy, soy, alcohol and sugar.  

*I would also add that flouride greatly affects our thyroid gland*

 

KEEP ON MOVING

Exercise helps stimulate thyroid gland secretion, ramps up the metabolism and improves your cells receptiveness.  If you are exercising why not get a dose of Vitamin D at the same time, and take a walk outside, this is another very important vitamin for hormone health. 

 

GO ON A DETOX PROGRAM

This is one of my favourite suggestions, and something I like to do once every 6 months.  I don’t realise how sluggish my whole system has become, until a few days into the detox and my bloated belly disappears, I lose a couple of kilograms, and I start feeling great and full of energy again.  Detox programs allow your digestive system including your liver to go on a well deserved holiday.  The liver is always working hard, finishing off jobs for so many other systems including recycling and excreting unwanted biochemicals which include your hormones.  A good percentage of conversion to the active T3 hormone, used by your cells, takes place in the liver, and again selenium is a very important part of this process.  The liver is susceptible to stressors such as poor nutrition, chronic illness and exposure to heavy metals.  Allowing the liver and gut a holiday can ramp up these vital conversion processes again.

  

HEALTHY GUT COLONY

Your friends in the gut, perform many tasks and interactions for us, and one of them is converting your thyroid hormones into the active form utilised by your cells.  About 20% of the conversion is performed by your friendly bacteria.  They can help to reduce inflammation levels in the body, which if left unchecked negatively impact upon your active thyroid levels.  Inflammation causes a rise in cortisol levels, throwing things out of balance.  Regular consumption of fermented foods and drinks in your diet is a great way to maintain a healthy colony.  It is also important to bare in mind that especially after taking antibiotics and even during and after a detox program, a course quality probiotics can positively impact on your thyroid health.

 

SLOW DOWN AND BE MINDFUL WHILST EATING

Take time to enjoy every mouthful and chew with purpose.  This is the beginning of good digestion.  Having a strong digestive system is connected to having a healthy metabolism and hormone balance (as well as a strong immune system).  Eating slowly allows your body to register that food is going in, and gives it a chance to prime all aspects of digestion (stomach acid, digestive enzymes, gallbladder bile and many other chemicals).  Chewing and eating slowly, gives the body a chance to release sufficient hormones associated with satiety giving greater portion control.

Wicked coleslaw

This is a delicious easy recipe to whip up and can be made in a large quantity to last a few days in the fridge for quick lunch or dinner additions, or a simple snack.

Ingredients:

Tempeh (fermented whole soybeans - look in your supermarket cold section or at the health food shop) - roughly half a block.

Cabbage (red and white) - less than a half, but depends how much you are making.

Red capsicum - one half.

Celery - 1 large stalk.

Fresh coriander - A good handful.

Organic apple - One whole.

Soya mayonnaise (from the health food shop or health food section of the supermarket) or your favourite home made mayonnaise or vegan cashew cream.  Roughly 2 tablespoons.

Optional extras: Walnuts, finely chopped carrot or squash.

Method:

Finely chop the 2 types of cabbage, celery, coriander, apple and red capsicum.  

Dice the tempeh into chunks and lightly fry in the frypan until light brown.  

Toss together and stir soya mayonnaise through to coat all the vegetables and add creaminess to the dish.  

*I haven't given you strict quantities for the above ingredients as I feel you need to adapt them to your liking.

Buckwheat crepes

Here is a simple delicious recipe which can be used with a variety of flours and in a variety of sweet or savoury situations...

1 cup buckwheat flour (or rye, spelt)

1 cup water

1 cup rice milk

3 eggs

Salt

Makes 4.5 crepes. Blend all ingredients together and ensure that there are no lumps.  Pour 1 scoop worth into a pan and cook on medium heat.  This batter can sit overnight or otherwise you can make the crepes and freeze them with baking paper between them.

I have used this recipe to wrap savoury ingredients like the picture below and have also successfully enjoyed dark chocolate and banana creations...#tryit.

DEPRESSION & JOY

I have been going through a tough time of late and have been spat out the other end thanks to 2 helpful things: A focus on joy and an amazing practitioner supplement N-acetylcysteine which assisted in me turning a corner.  I've decided to be really honest and raw in this blog post as I feel someone will benefit.  What is there to hide?  I love when others are honest and real with me.  Also, I watched 2 TED talks on shame and vulnerability on Friday by Brene Brown, which I think just tipped me over the edge to share.   

You see I’ve had a mixed history with depression.  It began in high school and has reared it's head every now and then over the years. After losing my partner of ten years at the beginning of the year, my foundation was a little shaky.  I have really tried to soldier on this year, but it's been tough.  I've been holding my head up and really trying to find my new groove, but every now and then (like last weekend) things just reached a point of overwhelm and I caved.  I had a number of signals leading up to the weekend, which I was trying to work around.  Finally I felt myself slipping - I know my signs and signals, so I thought, hang on, WHERE IS THE JOY IN WHAT I AM DOING & CREATING?  WHAT DO I HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE?

Last Saturday I had a very real and honest chat with my cousin. Speaking these challenges aloud led to a few decisions, which took the pressure off - the pressure, I had placed on myself.  Can you relate?

This conversation led me to challenge my thoughts on my 9-day Renew You Retreat, quit Facebook (my personal account) and focus on what brings me joy.  What would you choose away from the ‘shoulds’?  I feel I have been running at full speed trying to catch up, while organising the retreat, seeing clients, while trying to catch up on my blogs, newsletters, Facebook, Instagram - all that, while still continuing relief teaching. I found myself drowning in my thoughts and looking for a way out.  

I set an intention last full moon, at a women's circle gathering.  It was to trust in the flow and be kind to myself.  So with all that was happening in my mind and the feeling of 'slipping'...I gave myself the permission to allow myself to not go ahead with my 9-day Renew You Retreat.  This decision has not been made in haste.

However, making a choice, this choice, and not simply soldering on, allowed me to wake up the following morning and feel WHOLE again.  To feel like life doesn't need to be stressful.  To know that my choices create flow, ease and joy in my world.  To know that I wouldn't be chasing my tail for the next 4 months, while holding my breath.  I am grateful for that.  I have felt things were moving at a pace I wasn't comfortable with and I chose to honour that by stopping the retreat knowing I wasn't giving the very best of me.  

To utilise all that I have worked so hard to create with my retreat I have been mapping out how I can share it in smaller snippets so that it is more accessible for you in the community and others outside the community.  I know that 9 days is a long time to step away for and possibly not achievable for everyone.  Please note though that it was designed for a very specific reason - to allow you the space and support, away from your everyday life, to educate yourself on the big picture so you feel empowered to implement new practices with understanding, in order to develop new habits to support you on your journey to abundant health.  

I am continuing to connect with all of the amazing individuals around me, to collaborate with for mini workshops, events and shorter retreats.  I endeavour to bring each other together, create joy, share knowledge and strengthen our community of women.  

So as you may have noted, I got overwhelmed, chose self-care and realised I needed to refocus - please support me in doing so by being as real, honest and vulnerable with me in telling me what I can do for you.

Breathe for lymphatic flow...+free video!

I would like to welcome Pettina to the Seeds Of Health space.  She is currently completing her Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy, Nutrition and Western Herbal Medicine - the same qualification I began on my travels around Australia back in 2007.  Together we are going to be discussing all things health and myself imparting what I know with her to enhance her knowledge and only add to what she is already learning on her health journey.  She will be assisting with aspects of the clinic and getting some packages together and learning the ins and outs of what happens both in and outside consultations - ordering, blogging, documenting, consultations, marketing, social media, accounting, etc.  What hat doesn't a small business owner and entrepreneur wear? :)

Please understand that although Pettina is going to be sitting in on as many consultations as possible it is always completely your choice, as the client, as to whether you choose to allow her to sit in or not.  There is no pressure.

As so many Naturopath’s seem to find their interest in this industry, mine was piqued from illnesses in childhood, where I was forever going from doctor to doctor being treated for asthma.  It was again in my early 20s after having lost my mother to cancer after a 6 month battle when I was 17, followed by a stressful relationship, that I again found doctors lacking in being able to treat my symptoms, let alone get to the cause… I just wasn’t getting better.  With a sharp and open mind, I decided to take matters into my own hands, (with the help of some amazing Naturopaths of course) and my passion for health and wellbeing grew from there.  Now fast forward, I have almost completed a triple advanced diploma in Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine and Nutrition and married into a family of coffee farmers, finding myself surrounded by 85,000 coffee trees in Mareeba.  

I cannot overstate the power of Nutrition in helping me find my path to greater health and happiness. Having said that I also love all natural modalities, from the body work of massage, bowen therapy, reflexology, cranial sacral to energetic medicine of homeopathy, theta healing, flower remedies, and every modality in between.  I look forward to having the opportunity of sharing with everyone my experiences as Janelle’s protégé.  I am finding myself connecting again with Doterra essential oils as well, my first experience with them was when I was managing a day spa on the Gold Coast, and had a Doterra rep offer me an Aroma Touch experience.  Afterwards I then knew for certain essential oils had a powerful presence in natural healing.

Janelle’s Nurturing 9 is powerful yet simplistic, inspiring healthy habits into our daily life.  This week’s focus is on the breath.  Lets all take a solid deep breath, appreciate the oxygen you’re breathing in for your organs and cells to utilise, feel the immediate de-stressing capacity it provides, purifying any toxic energy and filling us with simple life force.  Yogis incorporate pranayama into their classes, teaching the power of breath control, uniting them with the flow of poses and movement.  This practice helps us to switch on our parasympathetic nervous system, (the relax and digest system), altering the state of our nervous system.  I know I, all too often, get caught up in my determination to achieve my set tasks for the day - make my little girls lunch, put the washing on, phone the insurance company, go to work (another set of tasks), plan and cook dinner, do the shopping, fold the washing, play with my daughter, etc, that before I know it, the day is finished and my nervous system has been on high alert all day.  Slow, deep, rhythmic breathing allows us to be in the present moment, helps us to let go of overwhelming situations, and appreciate the little things in life.   Best of all they can be done any time of the day, anywhere!

Deep breathing can also help circulate our lymphatic fluid. This is important because unlike the cardiovascular system that has the heart as a pump to circulate blood, lymph relies on movement and breath to ensure our lymphatic fluid reaches our lymphatic organs for filtration.   Our lymphatic system is both our immune cells highway and sewage pipe.  Cells excrete unwanted toxic metabolic waste into our lymph fluid, along with dead cells and other cellular debris. Without effective movement, breathing and lymph circulation our other vital bodily functions would quickly shut down, due to trapped proteins and excess fluid.  Deep breathing, along with exercise, accelerates (up to 15 times) the normal rate in which our lymph can circulate and be filtered.   

A deep breath should be felt within the abdominal area.  Holding the breath for 4 counts, help oxygenate the blood, and then exhale twice as long as the inhale, to increase the elimination of toxins.  This cycle of deep breathing enhances the health of our blood and activates our lymphatic system.  So easy yet so effective, I love it!   Here is a video Janelle has made on another breathing technique which is equally simple - Alternate nostril breathing - Nadi Shodhan.  She will be posting more videos on YouTube so keep an eye out!

2016...Simplify

How has your year started??

Mine began with quite a confronting situation which has settled in and begun to diffuse.  I feel I am beginning to digest that & enjoy a fresh start to the year.  

My word for the year is SIMPLIFY.  This feels so damn good!  I have been making an effort to cull for the last year.  But this January my culling efforts went to a whole new level - both in my clinic and also my home.  I have been picking up objects - be it clothes, books, articles, CDs, crockery, etc and noticing if it feels joyful to keep it.  It is such an easy process yet one that hasn't felt so easy in the past.  I have often kept things for logical reasons rather than whether they bring me joy.  My world feels so much lighter because of this practice.  A simple example is culling my CDs. That has been my latest project.  As I drive to work each day I put a new cd on and notice whether it lights me up or not.  I have a whole 2 large cd wallets of cds I've collected over time and ones friends have given me before going travelling, etc.  

I am starting to apply this to all areas of my life.  I am SIMPLIFYING my daily practices (cups of tea, mediation, whole foods, choosing less, enjoying more, reading, sitting with things more, shifting, feeling full with less).  Gosh its a gorgeous thing!  One that makes my world feel so full, yet I am doing less, have 'less' and am choosing less.  Does this feel like something which may benefit you?  What area of your life could you begin to simplify?

I am absolutely loving operating my clinic from town.  I drive to work, knuckle down, immerse myself in what I love and then drive home.  I try to leave work at work.  And so far the separation is fabulous!  Home life seems simpler.  I found last year I wasn't switching off from my business and having quality down time.  I am appreciating the amazing people I am working with and they are equally appreciating my contribution to the space.  Together we are better.

8 things I LOVE at the moment

1. This time of the year...

The anticipation and the excitement of Christmas is getting near.  Time in Sydney with my family is always fun.  We have such a fun crew with interests ranging from trampolining, quality food, ocean swimming, hiking, cannoying, camping, wine, riding bikes with my little cousins, dancing to animated kids film clips with my cousin Abbey & exploring new places both in and around Sydney.  Christmas is approaching and I leave this Thursday...that's right I can count on one hand!

I have a few new food haunts to check out with my cousin, some ocean swimming to do, some sipping of tea with aunties, uncles, etc and camping with my gorgeous Niece Willow who is 3 & I haven't seen her in a year!  I think she'll join the dance-offs with Abbey & I :)

2. Having an office to go to work at. 

The time has come where I needed to move my office and business out of my home.  And oh how good it feels to drive to work, focus and achieve and then drive home, flick the off switch and really focus on being present with cooking, connecting with others, swimming in the ocean, reading my book, staring at the sky, anything to create that bit of balance in my day/week.

 

3. The community around me

I feel so grateful for the women around me.  Those that brighten my day and lift me up.  People to share knowledge with, turn to for a boost or idea sharing.  Combining talents, picking mangoes, etc.  It's all so juicy and delicious.

 

4. Swimming in the ocean daily

Oh this is such bliss!  I just love floating and surrendering to the roll of the ocean.  Of late I try and go for a hike up Earl Hill first or a beach walk or run to the stinger nets and then jump in the ocean.  Laying on my back and surrendering to the roll of the ocean is something I have needed to do of late - surrender.

5. Doterra essential oils

I am so pumped about these babies!  I just love how pure and nurturing these oils are both physically and emotionally.  I personally use them daily and love the community of women which is forming in Cairns.  These women are educating and empowering themselves to support both themselves and their family.  Whether that be online with the Life-force Collective or in person at different spots including a delightful mango farm at Yorkey's Knob.  It such a supportive group with a real softness and strength of community.  You can purchase your own oils at wholesale prices also!  Just contact me or go on to my shop.

 

6. Riding my bike (to Earl Hill)

There is a certain sense of freedom when I'm on my bike.  I love to ride and would like to ride more often.  It's simple, it's free and it's free-ing. 

 

7. Fish oils

These babies were discovered at a recent seminar.  The purity of them is out of this world!  I really scrutinize supplements and not many get through the gates, especially fish oils that are incredible questionable for purity.  These are high in omega 3s which reduce inflammation in the body bought on through stress, poor eating habits, dehydration, over work, etc.  I have been taking them myself for the last 3 weeks and love how I am feeling.  Fabulous if you are currently suffering with dry skin, sore joints, more memory, feel irritable or have been working your butt off to get to the end of the year!

8. The opportunity & buzz I get from running workshops & the scope of what is in store for 2016!

I feel so excited for what lay ahead for 2016.  After delivering my most recent workshop on self-care I feel excited at what potential lay ahead for next year!  The products I have found over the last 9 years through both research and personal experience of trying them myself are now what I feel to be the best!  I really enjoy sharing all aspects of self-care and know that the Seeds Of Health community is building with the right tools to equip you on your very own HOLISTIC, SELF-CARE REVOLUTION!
